Hey there. Thanks for joining me on this adventure and endeavor. This will officially be my first blog entry to this blog here at Making Cents of Meaning, so I will start off with my introduction.
My name is Ken and I am a regular guy. I do not have any formal financial education or degrees. I am just an average middle-class dad who has figured out how to make his money work hard for him.
I try to make the most out of my life by remembering that the quality of possessions and experiences, and how much fulfillment they bring me, aren’t directly correlated to the amount of money they take from your pocket. I mean… it doesn’t cost much to run a 5K race while stopping halfway to crush a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts.
I happened upon an insatiable curiosity for financial and economic topics, so I am looking for a platform to articulate my findings, but more importantly, connecting that to my own personal journey in finding meaning, purpose, and fulfillment. Accumulating wealth is something we all strive for, but what is the point? After all, money isn’t everything, right?
I started this blog with the intention of providing information and insight to other regular people like me who can relate. (Don’t you love reading about those people who achieved a million-dollar net worth before they were 30? Or how about articles about people early retiring in their 20s or 30s? Seriously?) I have sifted through countless money blogs from people who are not so “regular”, and I honestly have struggled to relate.
As I begin to undertake this project, my hope is to provide a place where regular people can come to read about a regular guy figuring out how to make it all work with a middle-class amount of money to live out a rich and full life, not having to worry about money, and hopefully coach and aid people into financial liberation along the way. If that sounds good to you, because it certainly sounds good to me, come along and we will see where this blog takes us.
I am currently 34 (as I write this post), I am a father of three awesome kids, and I have been married to an even more awesome wife since 2005. We have yet to achieve financial independence, but it is a financial journey of which I now know of how to achieve, where I am going to achieve it, and how I am going about it to get there.
Originally from Southern California, we now make our home in North Carolina, and plan to stay here permanently, more on this in the future of the blog. Comment below if I forget to mention this in a future blog as to ultimately why.
Please look forward to blog entries where I plan to discuss topics and propose my opinion based around financial and economic concepts.
Here is a brief list of some things that I want to talk about:
My opinion on universal basic income
The true benefits of hypermiling
And much more…
Final Word
I look forward to this adventure and I hope I can impart even a sliver of wisdom on expanding your ability to live better through the development of financial literacy, as well as instilling a curiosity to economic and well-being topics.
